ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND QUALITY IN TOURISM IN LIGHT OF POLISH AND INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH

Academics at the Department of Tourism of the Poznań University of Economics for many years now have been engaged in research on entrepreneurship and ąuality in tourism. These issues have been studied both in the context of tourism destination and entrepreneurial attitudes of business enterprises and indWiduals. Tourism is a particularly fitting research field for studying the phenomenon of entrepreneurship. In his article entitled "Methods of entrepreneurship research in the Polish tourism sector" Grzegorz Gołembski points to a rapidly changing marginal utility, heterogeneous naturę of the complex tourism product, and diverse market situations as basie determinants of entrepreneurial attitudes. The author attempts to answer several questions about approaches to studying the intangible phenomenon of company entrepreneurship and about identifying manifestations of company entrepreneurship and symptoms of its suppression. Using case studies, he suggests implications for business enterprises operating in the Polish tourism market. The purpose of the case studies was to show whether or not compa-nies and individuals can identify entrepreneurial opportunities and to what extent these opportunities are exploited, how the effects of entrepreneurial actmties are measured, and what stimulants and destimulants of entrepreneurship can be iden-tified in tourism enterprises.
Several-year collaboration between the Department of Tourism, Poznań University of Economics and the Department of Strategie Management, Marketing and Tourism, University of Innsbruck delimited new fields of studies and provided an additional impulse for intensifying research work. The last two years of the joint research have focused on the issues of employee motrvation, entrepreneurial attitudes of tertiary education students, and methods of measuring ąuality of tourism services and traveller preferences. The joint research has led to unification of methodologies and enabled comparative studies of Poland and Austria.
